Good Morning, Cheryl,
Bike

Over the weekend, my husband, Anthony, and I rode our bicycles for the 5th time in the MS150, a 150 mile ride to raise funds for multiple sclerosis. The cyclometer on my bicycle clicked over 3,100 miles during the ride.

So, that means I've ridden at least 3,100 miles in the 4 or 5 years that the cyclometer has been on my bike. When I saw the miles, I thought, "Wow! I could have ridden from Los Angeles to New York!"

Our businesses are much the same. We do lots of little things, always busy, but rarely focused on the goal out there that we'd really like to achieve. If, instead of always being busy, trying to be productive, and working hard for our money, we'd put all that energy into focusing on our goal, we'd already be there.

Just like, if I'd focused on a ride from coast to coast, instead of the training rides I've been doing, 24 miles here, 36 miles there, I would have had an extraordinary achievement!

Are you ready to put your energy into achieving your goals? Let me help!

Who is Your Boss?

Who is it that dictates your day? Who (or what) do you feel you're a slave to? Many small business owners are slaves to their email. It runs their business lives. First thing in the morning, they fire up their computers, open the email program to see what urgent messages have been received in the few hours since they last looked at it.

What I typically see are a number of meeting notices, offers for me to buy "replica watches" but rarely do I ever see any email for an urgent issue.

So, who's the boss?

When time management first became the buzz phrase, we dealt with paper coming across our desks. There were suggested tactics for dealing with incoming mail, such as handle a piece of paper only once.

Now that much of our incoming mail is electronic in nature, translating what we know about time management techniques for dealing with paper to dealing with electronic mail could have a significant impact on our time.

Setting up rules in email programs is like giving instructions to an office staff. Rules essentially tell the email program how to distribute the mail instead of dumping everything on the center of your desk. Emails related to orders go to the Order folder. Emails from Jacqueline go to the NAWBO folder. I even use different email addresses to differentiate incoming emails. When I sign up for a free newsletter, I use newsletter@mydomainname.com and all incoming emails to that email address are directed to the Newsletter folder. This is just like having print magazines that arrive in the mail stacked on the corner of your desk. You know where they are but can choose when to read them.

I'f you're letting "things" be your boss, but want to take control over your destiny and reach your goals, contact Cheryl!

My husband and I were invited by Troy Persyn of Wealth & Risk Management Services to a preview of the movie "The Ultimate Gift" last year. It's one of those gotta see movies. And, thankfully, Troy is presenting an encore showing so you can have a chance to see it, too. RSVP to Troy at 210-225-6666 for the November 15th - 6:30 pm showing. Seats are limited!
